Dividend stock lists are always fun to examine because sometimes there is a nugget or two in the list. Here’s 34 S&P 500 Stocks Yielding More Than 5% Dividends.
With a list like the above, you have do some research to see if the dividends are sustainable going forward. Here’s a good article on the topic: What Dividend Stocks Can’t Do
To start that analysis, I recommend Finviz Stock Screener - All Categories. I like this screener because it has lots of options and is very organized.
As I go through the list, I don’t see much room for stock appreciation. This is not surprising as one is usually buying for the dividends – not the price appreciation.
However, I think a better strategy is to have lower dividends with higher stock appreciation. I’ll explore this in future blogs.

The US Champions List is a list of stocks that have paid higher dividends for at least 25 years. The spreadsheet is an excellent tool for researching these stocks.
